Epping community vegetable garden
Epping community vegetable garden is sponsored by EBCAG. We're currently in the planning stage to convert an old bowling green situated at Dence Park, Epping into an area for the community. People who have joined this group include both EBCAG members and local residents who simply want to learn how to grow organic vegetables and get to know their neighbours better.
Carbon heroes
We like to find people or businesses who are role models of living or operating sustainably. When we do, we write a story about them for this website and the local newspaper.
350 ppm event
On Saturday 24th October, people around the world participated in a variety of events to highlight the importance of reducing the world's carbon footprint to 350 parts per million - the level of carbon dioxide scientists are telling us is needed to live comfortably on the earth. The level is currently at 380ppm and rising!
350.org events included human signs, music festivals, education seminars, candle ceremonies, art shows and street fairs. The organisers hope to emphasize to world leaders, in the lead up to the climate talks in Copenhagen in December, that decisive action is needed now. Have a look at the wonderful variety of photos on the 350.org website.
Voting at Our Epping Beecroft CAG
350.org event
For our 350.org event, we invited school children to write a message to Prime Minister Rudd about climate change and then asked passers-by in Hannah Street, Beecroft, to choose the best ones. Prizes will be awarded both to the child and to the participating school. The entries are being displayed at Epping Library and then sent to the Prime Minister, and photos of the event have been sent to 350.org for their website.
Small Business Energy Savings program
Tell local businesses about this energy saving program. Hornsby Council is offering free energy assessments to small businesses in Hornsby Shire. Rebates of up to $5000 for 50% of energy efficiency equipment costs are available from the NSW government as well as tax deductions from the Federal government. Click on the document names to download an information sheet and Hornsby Council application form and give them to your local business or tell them to go to Hornsby Council's website. There is also a NSW Energy Efficiency Program brochure but this doesn't cover the extra benefits of applying through Hornsby Council.
This is a good opportunity to cost effectively reduce a business's carbon footprint - Spread the word!
EBCAG is always open to suggestions and looking for partners for local events. Do you have an idea?
